Madeira Island is situated in the Atlantic Ocean about 350 miles off the coast of North Africa. The island enjoys warm summers and mild winters, making it an excellent all year round holiday destination and a good choice for winter warmth.

The irrigation system known as Levadas beside which are public footpaths are one of the many attractions for visitors. These watercourses provide walkers with over 2000kms. of accessible mountain walking through spectacular countryside, so we are an ideal base for Levada walking holidays in the west of the island.

Calheta is a small, friendly coastal community 30 minutes drive west of Funchal and only 50 minutes from the Airport making Casas' Palmeira & Nolina an excellent base for visitors seeking a walking holiday in the unspoilt west of the island.
